Since I’m playing catch up, here is Lottie’s Finishing School’s fourth challenge…to dream. I think I’ve always dreamed a little but never so much as in the last year or so. I’m not talking about the dreams you have when you’re asleep. I’m talking about the dreams of where you want your life to be, things you want to do.
In my early 20′s I dreamed of meeting the perfect man…then I met my husband who I instantly knew was the one.
Then I dreamed of having a child. I was told it wouldn’t be possible but I didn’t give up hope. We had our share of complications but 12 years ago we had our miracle girl.
The next dream was the “great Australian dream” to buy a house. We started looking around, asking about financial requirements etc and were told by several people that we wouldn’t be able to afford a house of our own. We worked at it until our dream became a reality.
Then last year we dreamed of building our own house, and before we knew it, it was all happening. I thought this would be it. I’d have everything I dreamed of. Until I realised there was more to life than family and house.
That’s when I wrote my bucket list. I had not even seen the movie “the Bucket List”. I was inspired by a guy I saw on morning TV. Check it out…there are 100 things I would like to do before I turn 45… just over 5 years away. I probably won’t do them all by then but I thought if I set a date then I’ll be more likely too turn my dreams into reality. There are things on there to challenge me, things to help others, travel dreams, things to learn to do….
But then toward the end of the build I nearly lost my husband after a routine operation went wrong. I moved into our dream house wanting to sell it. It was not worth losing my husband over. It only emphasised that life can be short and we need to make the most of it. Since then I have been re-evaluating my life and my dreams.
I still want to complete my bucket list. I also want to make myself a better person. I want to be fit, healthy and happy. One day I hope to be able to earn an income doing something I love, something creative. We have recently discussed a new dream of moving overseas for my husband’s career.
Is it wrong to want so much from life, to dream? I don’t think so. And I firmly believe if you write it down, visualize it, it will come true.
Thank you Lottie for another super challenge.
So what do you think E is for? The Eyes have it!
